Description

Six generations of stubborn, competitive growers and one equally spirited winemaker – that’s the Oliver family.

Living smack bang in the middle of McLaren Vale, the family flourish on producing perfect parcels of fruit on their 100 hectare ‘Taranga’ property.

Their collection of small batch, handcrafted, Oliver’s Taranga wines speak of both the variety and vintage, capturing a time and place, while continuing to document the family’s ongoing 185 year relationship with the land.

The 2025 harvest started very early, with a dry and consistently warm growing season. In these conditions Grenache comes to the fore, revelling in the drier ripening conditions. Another excellent year for Grenache from McLaren Vale, which seems to be in a purple patch at the moment - darling of the consumer, winemaker and viticulturists!

Review
From '65, '95 and '17 estate vines, mostly on sandy soils over limestone; minimal whole bunch, and maturation half in steel and half in older oak. This is bright-fruited in the modern mode, yet never strays into confection, the red-fruited core accented in a savoury way, though never dulled or lacking in vigour. Red berries, macerated strawberries, cranberries, white pepper, raspberry leaf tea and rosehip. Medium weight with a pleasing weave of natural tannin and acidity lively of feel. This is another fine, and keen value, release.

Tasting Profile
Nose

River stone, juniper, rose florals, red forest berries and earthy spice.

Palate

The palate delivers everything one hopes from the nose. Bright fruit with sour cherry and purple fruited crunch, zippy lifted acid, fine lightweight tannins, a scattering of dried florals, black pepper and clove spice and a mineral-laden finish.
