Prieuré-Roch Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Vielle Vignes 2023
At Domaine Prierue Roch what matters most is not the appellation printed on
the label , but the wine itself – the purity, the energy, and the story inside every bottle.
Domaine Prieuré Roch was established by the late Henri Fedrich Roch who was up until his passing was also the Co- Director of Domaine de La Romanée Conti. He established Domaine Prieure Roch in 1988 when he acquired vineyards including the Clos Goillotte monopole in Vosne Romanee from Domaine Romanee Conti & the imposing 5.2 hectare Clos des Corvee monopole in Nuits St Georges where the Domaine’s impressive new home is situated along the famous RN 74 route des Grand Cru’s.
The 2023 vintage for Domaine Prieure Roch is regarded by Yannick Champ & cellar master Antonio Quari as a vintage that produced extremely satisfying wines with lower alcohols levels than 2022 and 2020 and given the warm summer the balance of alcohol and acidity are also very good. These 2023 wines are fruit forward with beautiful aromatics enhanced by whole cluster fermentation that will be pleasing to many.
This is the fourth harvest for this exciting new expansion in Gevrey for the team & with the experience of working Clos de Beze since 1994 Yannick & the team have a good understanding of the terroir. The plot is one of the largest monopoles in the Cotes de Nuits and therefore two bottlings are produced , the Vielle Vignes comes from the area with more direct exposure to the sun and produces a more robust and fruit forward expression. The vineyard was exposed to a serious hailstorm in June so rigorous hand sorting was undertaken to ensure only the cleanest fruit made it to the winery.
